Vomiting bug E. coli is on the rise in Cambridge

Cases of the vomiting bug E. coli are on the rise in Cambridge.

There were 172 reported cases of the potentially deadly infection between January and June this year, up from 159 cases in the same time last year.

On average it means there has been one case reported every day so far this year according to new NHS figures for the Cambridge University Hospitals Trust.

E. coli is a bacterial infection that can cause food poisoning and more serious symptoms.

Nationally, the number of E coli cases recorded by all hospitals trusts in England rose from 19,907 in January to June 2017 to 20,217 in January to June 2018.
